Heidi
Thanks for the enlightening intro video. I think I'm in the right place. My name is Heidi and I'm wanting to fictionalise a complex (to others) non-fiction world I'd been trying to create. It might be more fun, and come across better, as fiction. I was drawn to the Harry Potter theme because J.K. Rowling 's 7-volume through-line, with its detailed research and crystal-clear prose, is the gold standard in world-building for me.

John Gilger
Hi, I'm John Gilger. I've been earning my living as a technical writer/editor since I retired from the Submarine Service several years ago. translating "Geek-speak" into "Joe Six-pack" is getting old. I want to spin yarns and tell (write) "sea stories" to entertain my grand-kids.
My favorite book has been "Huckleberry Finn" since I read it in grade school about a bazillion years ago. I haven't read any Harry Potter books yet, but I've seen all the movies at least once. I like JK Rowling's story-telling style.
I like to write adventure mixed with humor and mystery – or mysteries with a streak of adventure and a dose of humor. A great mix would be a story with the adventure of Star Wars and the dry humor of Mark Twain woven into the JK Rowling style.

January Jaxon
Hi, I'm January (Ree for short.) I'm wrapping up the last couple thousand words of a first draft of an urban fantasy novel and I'm looking for ways to improve it in the editing. Since I've read all the Harry Potter books enough to recite significant portions from memory, I figured this would be a good "checklist" to make sure I've covered the mandatory elements.
My favorite book depends on what hour you ask me, but at the moment, Ben Aaronovitch's "Rivers of London" series is top of my list for fiction. The worldbuilding in NK Jemisin's "The Fifth Season" is also blowing my mind. My favorite Harry Potter installment is "Order of the Phoenix" because I could not truly relate to Harry as a protagonist until he hit that teenage angst phase, haha!
When I'm writing fiction, it's usually some flavor of urban fantasy. I love vampire fiction in particular but I despair of the genre's habit of romanticizing toxic relationships, so I'm currently writing the version I'd rather read.

Lisa Hostetler
Hi! My name is Lisa. My favorite Harry Potter book is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Right now my favorite book(it changes from time to time) is Brotherhood in Death by J.D. Robb. It’s been a really long time since I actually sat down and wrote a complete story. I have so many shiny ideas floating around that I frequently forget to get them all down before they change into the next one. But I what I love about writing is the catharsis of just getting something down on paper and exploring the many possibilities that come out of what’s written. What I hope to achieve is writing a whole book for publication, self-published I think. I want to create something that someone in the world will enjoy. If I make one person smile with my work, I would be happy.

Hello, happy to be here. I am taking a few courses on writing; from world building, to active setting, to characters. I am gaining and improving my skills so that I may apply it to my manga series that I am creating. I do love Harry Potter, and might get into novel writing as well. I believe that these courses can help in more than just novel writing; that and in my process, I tend to wright out a rough novel first, then make storyboards. It just helps me get all my thoughts down on paper.

Hello my name is Karen. My favourite book is usually the book I am currently reading. I cannot say which is my favourite Harry Potter story as they are all good. I have been taking a few writing courses this past year in hopes that one day I can get the stories out of my head and on to the page. I would like to write mysteries and thrillers both which are plot driven. I hope to gain some knowledge from this course and find a little magic to add to my writing.

Hello from Vancouver, BC, Canada! I have not read any of the Harry Potter Books but I have seen the first movie. I would love to know how Jo was able to accomplish the check list that Clark provided. It seems that her books would have been very complicated to structure yet I believe she spent alot of time writing in a cafe while her baby slept. Did she take courses? I am very eager to get started to learn the tricks of the trade so to speak and to focus on my own writing dream :-)

Hi all. I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter series and I am writing a novel. I am hopeful that this course will afford the opportunity to improve everything from character building to plot writing. I look forward to learning more. My favourite book is probably Arrows of the Queen by Mercedes Lackey, but I like many different authors. I also really enjoy reading and rereading the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Poalini. My favourite Harry Potter book is the Prisoner of Azkaban because it brings actually family into the mix for Harry allowing him the opportunity to be a struggling teenage boy. I like to write fantasy and science fiction.

Hello all! I am late for this course, but I am here, BIC. I originally joined because I am writing my own series of Soul Journey novels and the knowledge, I believe, I will gain from this course will do much to hone the skills I have and create a series that people will enjoy. I also love the Harry Potter series and I can't think of a better way to learn the way to layout and nurture the storylines of my upcoming series.

Hey Clark and all,
I'm Michael, and I'm here because my first novel bombed and I know why. Even though Harry Potter was never my jam, I recognize its storytelling quality, and I have a feeling this course can solve my issue or at least point me forward effectively. And Clark, thanks for being human, brother!

Hi, I'm Paola and it's difficult to choose a favorite book… but I love the fantasy genre, and Harry Potter was one of the first books I read (especially the first one). I have too many works in progress in the fantasy/sci-fi area.

Hi, I'm Dee - huge H.P. fan - basically all the books are my favorite! I've been reading Dune once a year since I was 15 - that's 50 years ago - so that would be a lifelong favorite book (and series). I'm a storyteller who is trying to get the stories into written form.

Hi, I'm Tricia. I love the Harry Potter books, and I have been thinking about writing a book of my own. I have a lot of ideas but have not settled on which one to start with. My favorite Harry Potter book is Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone. My favorite book is Little Women. I write randomly to prompts in my journal at the moment. I've written the beginnings of a couple of short stories, but have not yet finished them. I am hoping this close will help me figure out why I am having trouble finishing them.
